How is Eliahu connected to my family?
My grandfather, Meyer Endler, was born 19 Feb 1886 in Polonnoye, Ukraine. He died 13 Nov 1975.Eliahu was the uncle and sponsor for my grandfather.
My grandfather's father Nachum Felhandler and his mother Machle Schwartzman (Shvarzman) did
not immigrate.
My father told me that his father Meyer was very close to his mother. When his mother died from blood poisoning from a pinprick, his father remarried and Meyer did not like his step mother.
According to the Philadelphia Passenger Lists and the Hamburg Passenger Lists, on 20 Dec 1909, Meier Fellhandler ( transcription error Fellliandler ) left Hamburg and landed in Liverpool and then arrived in Philadelphia on the S.S.Haverford, 20 Jan 1910. His nearest relative in Russia was his father Nahum Felhandler. He was going to his uncle Elias Endler who had been in Quebec City for 8 years.
So here I found out that my original name was Felhandler. In other records the name was Felhendler or Hendler
My grandfather's brother Eli was born 5 May 1900 and married Pearl Segal 6 Apr 1924 in Lachine, Quebec. He died 5 Aug 1971. Pearl was born 15 Jul 1901 in Solokovitz, Koretz, Ukraine and died 25 Jun 1981 in Montreal, Quebec.
My grandfather's sister, Perl Baila, known as Pearl, was born in 1899 and died 19 Jul 1957 in Montreal, Quebec. She married Menachem/ Menasseh Holtzman also known as Max.
There were many picture postcards that my grandfather had kept. It was through these that I got a glimpse of the many people he left behind. So many goodbyes. There were relatives, friends, some unidentified. In the back of these pictures were words written in Russian, Yiddish and Hebrew. Thankfully, Jewishgen provides volunteers who have translated these languages giving me names of people who were close to my grandfather. I am really hoping that someone out there may recognize these faces. Very sadly there are no pictures of my grandfather's parents
